Like many cities in Europe, Lisbon has a strong craze for cocktail bars and speakeasy.Lisbon’s young bartenders rival those in Barcelona and London in their creativity. Every October, there is even the Lisbon Cocktail Week, a great festival where you can enjoy Lisbon cocktails at low prices.
There’s nothing more stylish than drinking a cocktail from one of Lisbon’s many rooftops ! I am thinking in particular of the trendy bars like Park or Pharmacia.
While it’s easy to order a cocktail from any Lisbon bar, Lisbon’s best cocktail bars are not everywhere. Prices for a good cocktail in Lisbon vary. You can expect a minimum of 9 euros and up to 15-16 euros.
Luis Pinto Coelho was a visionary. Passionate about antiques, he created in Lisbon unique speakeasy from scratch, the fruit of his overflowing imagination. Every bar is a world of velvet and mirrors, bric-a-brac and antiques. Famous for their decoration, these cocktail bars were also famous for the many stories that took place there. They have stood the test of time, with their share of anecdotes!
Here they are in chronological order :
In the heart of the old quarter of the Amoreiras, Procópio has always been a chill bar for cosy talks in a vintage atmosphere since its creation. It is said that it was a place of conspiracy where CIA agents, foreign journalists & military met. Table number 2 was thus known as the « diplomats’ table ».

Open from Monday to Saturday, from 6pm to 2am (opening at 9pm on Saturday, closing at 3am on Friday & Saturday).
Founded just two days after the revolution, on 25 April 1974, A Paródia was decorated in tribute to the great artist Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro. In an intimate atmosphere of the 1920s, you will have the chance to plunge into a world worthy of Agatha Christie’s novels. Among the 50 cocktails on the menu, don’t miss the very famous ginger margarita !
Address : Rua do Patrocínio 26-b.

Foxtrot is an absolute cocktail bar for the youth of Lisbon. In addition to drinking the typical Lisbon cocktails, there is no hesitation to have a meal. The « Foxtrot » style beef is a classic. Larger than the other 3 bars, it hides a small indoor garden to cool down in the summer.
Address : Tv. Santa Teresa 28.
Open every day from 6pm to 2am (closed at 3am on Friday and Saturday).
The Pavilhão Chinês is the last bar of the founder and probably the most famous as it houses a large part of his personal collection. The five rooms are a real museum. Unique pieces, a bric-a-brac displayed in perfect harmony. And a team of gentlemen dressed in old-fashioned clothes for a unique experience.

You have to go through the double door to enter the world of the Klandestinos. Mariana and Joao brilliantly run this cocktail bar with a wide range of cocktails for all tastes. And if you want a classic cocktail, you will be served to the right measure.
Open since summer 2018, Café Klandestino has made a name for itself in record time. Follow them on social networks and don’t miss the « Batalha Klandestina« : every month there is a tournament between the best bartenders in Lisbon and Europe.

Founded in late 2004 by Englishman Dave Palethorpe, Cinco Lounge is the pioneer of modern speakeasy in Lisbon. Located in the lower streets of Principe Real, this cocktail bar offers a varied menu (100 cocktails). In a relaxing atmosphere, Cinco Lounge is the perfect place to meet up with friends and enjoy a chill out in Lisbon. The team is funny, dynamic and very efficient.
The policy of the house ? Your total satisfaction. If you are disappointed by a cocktail, you can immediately exchange it with another one that best suits your taste.

Machimbombo, from the English « machine pump », referred to these old trams that ran on line 28. As you will have understood, this cocktail bar is on the way to the famous tram 28 and in the immediate vicinity of the party districts of Bica and Bairro Alto.
Next to the famous rooftop bar « Park », Machimbombo is an excellent alternative. Cheila & Semi, two former members of Toca da Raposa, create incredible consensual cocktails, for those who are put off by the raw flavour of alcohol.
Address : Calçada do Combro 87.
Open from Wednesday to Sunday.
Open at 5pm (except Friday at 7pm, Sunday at 12pm).
Closed at 02h (except Saturday at 03h, Sunday at midnight).
It’s the little brother of the Red Frog ! In a very jungle atmosphere, you can enjoy tropical cocktails at the Monkey Mash : sugar cane, agave and exotic spirits. Like the Red Frog, its location is perfect for groups on Avenida da Liberdade and in the Marques de Pombal area. Unfortunately, we were surprised by the cold reception of some of the staff, which contrasts radically with the environment. But hey, maybe things have changed since then.
Address : Praça Alegria 66A.
Open Monday to Saturday from 6pm to 2am (closed Monday at midnight, Friday & Saturday at 3am).
According to WorldsBestBars.com, speakeasy Red Frog is one of the top 100 bars in the world. So it’s not for nothing that it’s the most famous in town. First of all, we like the atmosphere where when you ring the doorbell, you find this New York atmosphere of the 20’s, during prohibition. You are immersed in this jazz, bohemian atmosphere, punctuated by the shakers of the cocktail masters.
Address : Rua do Salitre 5A.
Open Monday to Saturday from 6pm to 2am (closed Friday & Saturday at 3am).
The Portuguese Constança Cordeiro learnt everything about mixology in London. And it is quite naturally in Lisbon, in the Chiado district, that she opened Toca da Raposa (Fox’s Lair), a cocktail bar like any other. The drinks are made from local ingredients, so the flavour is unique.
Toca da Raposa can accommodate 30 people and, as with its cocktails, is based on the originality of its environment. The centrepiece ? This marble island in the centre of the bar which allows a certain proximity to the barmaids.
Address : Rua da Condessa 45.
Open from Thursday to Monday from 6pm to midnight.
It is the latest speakeasy from Lisbon. Peter and Rafael opened Onda Cocktail Room in December 2019. Both of them have over 40 years of experience, and our happy few know a thing or two about their business. While Peter creates his cocktails inspired by his Irish roots (whiskey lovers will love it), Rafael will offer a more exotic, Brazilian touch. In fact, I think it’s the best caipirinha in the whole city!
Regularly, they organise workshops on mixology, but not only. Peter loves organising premium whiskey tastings !
Address : Rua Damasceno Monteiro 45.
Open Monday to Sunday from 14h to 02h.
