Without the river Tagus, Lisbon would not exist. It is thanks to the Tagus that the city was born, founded by the Phoenicians, who baptised it "Alis Ubbo" (meaning pleasant cove, which is the etymology of Lisbon). They discovered the bay of Lisbon by boat. For more than 5 centuries, this majestic river has seen many travellers pass through its peaceful waters, in search of spices and glory, swept away by the reputation of a grandiose city.
Discovering Lisbon by boat with a cruise on the Tagus is one of the activities that are out of the ordinary. Indeed, Lisbon's must-sees are offered to you from a different perspective.
What to do in Lisbon in the summer ? Boat, boat and more boat excursions. Lisbon tours by boat will allow you to discover the city of the 7 hills from a different perspective :
1- In the heart of Lisbon : The Commerce Square, the Sé, the Sao Jorge Castle, the Alfama will have a different Look.
2- The bridge of April 25th : this impressive iron monster that takes us to San Francisco and brings us to the south shore, where Cristo Rei, the Portuguese Corcovado statue, is located. A cruise on the river Tagus is to follow in the footsteps of the Portuguese sailors who sailed to the other side of the world to fish cod with fado songs.
3- A boat trip from Lisbon to Belem district : the Belem tower, the Hieronymites monastery, the monument to discoveries. Vasco da Gama and the great Portuguese explorers set sail from the quays of this port. And surely once at quay, you will go and taste the famous pastéis de nata !
To go further : a boat trip from Lisbon to the Bay of Cascais. This former fishing village has become a posh seaside resort where you can sunbathe and picnic on the deck of the sailboat.
We also organise fishing trips in the open sea.
Finally, if you are looking for a dolphin watching excursion, the best dolphin watching spot is not in Lisbon but near by.

Discovering Lisbon from the river Tagus is always fun, but the best way is to privatise a boat, just for you. And not with a small boat !
A private cruise in Lisbon on the Tagus is the guarantee of meeting your desires, with a quality customised service. A boat trip is ideal for :
1- A champagne dinner in front of a sunset on the river Tagus. All this to the sound of fado or samba…
2- An hen/stag party on a sailing boat trip with music, sun and drinks. This is an idea that will score points !
3- A regatta for a team-building, a corporate event ? There you will be able to say : we are all in the same boat !
4- Become a real Portuguese sailor or whatever, live a jet-setter’s life!
If you come to visit Lisbon with your family, you can sail safely on the Tagus on a Hippotrip. For 90 minutes, this amphibian bus will take you on a general tour of the city and then it will go for a ride on the Tagus by throwing itself into the river. For children (and adults), it’s a guaranteed thrill and laughter!
1- Most boat companies like Taguscruises offer a classic itinerary : a single round trip between Belem and the Commerce square. A private sailing boat on the Tagus is to ensure a fun and entertaining excursion.
2- The proximity to the ocean brings a pleasant but strong breeze, the evenings can be very cool (even in summer). Make sure you have something to wear.
3- Hen/stag : behave in a way that is adapted to the risks of sailing. The Tagus is not such a quiet river.
4- Red wine is forbidden on board ! Because it stains well.
