Café da Ordem dos Arquitectos (Architects council cafe)
An atypical café run by two brothers
Formerly housing the district’s baths, a sober, white building hides behind the beautiful Sao Paulo church. The façade is not without symbolism. The columns stand before me and support the famous triangle so emblematic of the Masonic brotherhood. I rarely use this entrance. It leads to the various rooms and offices of the Lisbon Order of Architects and also to the café at the back. The Café da Ordem dos Arquitectos (or COA) can be reached directly through a beautiful and relatively imposing green wrought iron door. It faces the Ribeira market.
This large door I mention above gives access to a terrace built in 2014. Since the construction of this access, people enter this café much more willingly. I like this terrace. It’s cool, away from the crowds. It’s a calm and design place for those in search of precious inspiration. It is a central place of a rare quality that I like, where the sympathy of the staff compensates for a furniture that touches me too little.
With a galao (the great Portuguese café au lait), this crispy puff pastry is a delight! The mixture made me happy for my snack!
The lunch dishes also look delicious. Therefore, I will return to this restaurant to enjoy a simple dish but served with a good dose of sympathy and a pinch of creativity…
